How much would this Japanese house cost to build?

Around how much would it cost to build a decent sized 1 bedroom house?

  • my mom gave me the go ahead to build a separate house on her lot, so now im just wondering, around how much it would cost for a decent size 1 bedroom house with a good sized kitchen and living room. or if there is somewhere i could go to get some type of estimate, or find out what the average price is. I know there is a lot of things that factor into how much it would cost, but like i said, if i can just get an estimate,

  • Answer:

It will vary upon where you live, but for the sake of estimating the cost, figure out the dimensions of the house (so you can calculate how many square feet it will be). If you are paying someone (a contractor) to build it, expect to pay between $90- $140 a square foot. The simpler/more plain you make it the cheaper it will be (ie: straight A roof, 8' ceilings, siding, 3-tab shingles, base grade cabinetry, formica tops, vinyl flooring in the kitchen and baths, base grade carpet and pad, basic lights and hardware and so on). You need to find local contractors to bid it once you have plans. We all give free estimates, so take a bunch. Talk to friends coworkers etc to see if any of them used a guy and were pleased with the outcome and pricing. Ask for references. Check them. Be leary of a guy that bids why under the others. He probably doesn't know what he's doing, or he's crook. First thing though is you need to get some plans made up for guys to bid on.
