How long should you use an oil burner?

How do you use a scented oil burner ?

  • When you put scented oils in those little burners that you get from 'new age' shops.. should you float the oil on water or just put it straight into the burner dish ?

  • Answer:

Float the oil on some water. If you use it full strength, the scent will be too strong and it will burn in the bottom of the container.

If you add water to your oil, the water will evaporate quickly and the oil will be tacky and difficult to clean out of your dish. If you are using essential oil, and it is too strong, you could dilute it with grape seed oil or some other natural type of oil (do not use baby oil or cooking oil) If you are using (non-essential) scented oils that are made for burning, you can pour it directly from the bottle (they are already made safe for use in warmers). You only need about half a teaspoon in the dish. Just be careful, some companies dilute their scented oils a lot (some up to 95%) so you get less scent. A good quality oil in a small bottle should last you a long time. I make scented oils and all of my customers tell me my 1oz bottle lasts 1-3 months or longer.

I just pour a little of my essential oil straight onto the burner dish.
