What is the difference between an architect and an interior designer?
-
Where does the architect's job end and interior designer's begins?
-
Answer:
There has always been a fine line between them. Take Frank Lloyd Wright as an example. He was an architect by training and education, but he also designed interiors and furniture for many of his homes (control freak). In our firm, my partner is degreed in both fields, licensed and accredited.

architects design the house and interior designers design the inside

An architect designs and draws the physical plans for a structure be that a home or a commercial building. The interior designer designs the layout for your interior with furnishings and accessories.

If you've decorated a room in your house you are an interior designer! Anyone can advertise as one but I would advise using one with qualifications etc if you want a good result. A qualified architect is essential if you want to make structural changes to your property - without one you could end up having to knock down any work, providing it doesn't fall down first!

An architect designs the formation of buildings and an interior designer designs the interior or the rooms

The architect designs the building and the designer decorates ( colour paint, furniture, that sort of thing.) it after its been built. There is also the contractor who does the actual construction before the Interior designer even gets close to it. The contarctor might work in conjunction with the architect, but neither of these two really communicate with the Designer. so as you can see, one rarely has anything to do with the other.

Architect can actually design the building to zoning specs. And is licensed by the state. Has to pass a bunch of tests before he gets his professional stamp. Interior designer decorates the inside after the building is built.
