Why do my bathroom walls now get condensation streaks after I shower? How can I prevent them?
-
After I shower I get long condensation streaks on my walls that stay there for hours after the shower. I usually put my exhaust / heater on when I shower. It happens when the exhaust is on or off, and when the door and the side window is open. Why does this happen? What can I do to prevent it.

Answer:
Extractor fan on, shorter showers, AND dry the walls/tiles immediately after you have dried yourself. Also keep the door to the bathroom/shower room closed to prevent the steam spreading throughout the house.

Your exhaust fan is probably not powerful enough to exhaust the steam from the room. Opening the window will not help much unless you put an exhaust fan in the opening. Steam rises, therefore I would suggest opening the top of the window instead of the bottom to allow more of the steam to exhaust before it condenses. Other remedies are to take shorter and cooler showers. Don't turn on the shower until you are ready to bathe and shut off immediately afterwards.

The streaks are coming from the muck on the walls. The condensation will always happen, but the streaks will disappear with a good cleaning. You may need to repaint with a good midew resistant and washable paint.
