How effective are solar curtains?

How do I stop my curtains from getting in the way of my window-mounted air conditioners?

• My wife put up pretty curtains all over the house, but now that it's summer time, we needed to install a/c units in the window. The problem is that the curtains drape in front of, and block the air coming out of the a/c's. What should I do? Do I need to take the curtains down for the summer? Is there a way to pull them to the side, without it looking too ugly? Thanks!

  I use "chip clips" on mine. I purchased a 4 pack of small plastic clips from a local dollar store. This allows me to fold the curtains neatly & they can still hang in the window & block the view/light without stopping the air flow. If you have a top blowing A/C, you can also use a tension rod to push the curtains tight against the window glass or frame & this will keep the air flowing OUT into the room instead of UP & into the curtains!
