How to remove a link border?

How do I remove just a wall paper border that is in center of wall without removing the wall paper behind it?

  • My twelve year old son wants me to remove the "cow jumping over the moon" wallpaper border that encircles the center of the wall in his room. I would like to remove it without having to remove the wall paper that it is attatched to. I am afraid that if I score the border and use a product like "Dif" I will loosen the paper behind it and end up with a larger project than I have time to handle right now. Any suggestions?

    If you can find the seam of just the border take your fingernail and pull the vinyl facing off, now you should have the white backing left. Use a spray bottle with hot water and a sponge in the other hand and spray the backing and with the sponge keep the moisture on the backing as much as possible meaning DON"T let the water soak all over the wallpaper. Just do a wall at a time. By the time your at the end of the wall go back again using your fingernail and pull the backing off once off use a clean sponge to wipe down your wallpaper. This will work as long as there wasn't a vinyl adhesive used on it. Good luck Les the painter

I would make a spray with liquid fabric softner and water and spray the border. be sure not to spray directly on a seam of the wallpaper.

Some of these answers are good, but what you didn't say was how the border was attached. If the border was placed over the wallpaper, whomever put it up should have used vinyl-to-vinyl paste, which won't disolve in fabric softener. The border never would have stuck without using it. If this is so, it can't be removed without destroying the paper.
