What is average mature area?

What's the average square ft for tiling just above the bathtub area?

  • I'm doing a tile estimate online and I believe most peoples average sized bathroom with a bathtub is the same size (the area where just your bathtub is in sq ft.)... so what's yours?

    The average tub surround, going the standard 5' up ( off the tub ) is 48 s/f of tile 48 bullnose and two out corners. 4 sheets of 3x5 cement board.Plus thin set (NOT mastic) and grout. Most tubs need soap dish (es) and some times shampoo corner shelves. Add 10 s/f for every foot you go higher depending on how high the customer wants the tile. Adjusting the bull nose accordingly. 50 square feet if u have a regular bath tub.All tubs are 5 footers and u go 5 foot up from the tub.U need around 600 4x4 lil tiles with the waste & all plus corners,grouts,mastic...& a good tile man not a handiman that messes it up & u live with it.

The standard tub walls are 3x5 3+3+5 = 11 linear feet. With a dropped ceiling, there is approximately 66 square feet of tile. Without a dropped ceiling, 77 square feet

The cost of the tile is $2 per square foot if you use the new interlocking tiles that are self grouting. You need to also purchase water proof glue and backer board. Figure $4 per square foot total. The new self grouting interlocking tiles are so simple a child can use them, and they are quick. No grouting or sealing required. Put glue on the backer board and then knock the tile together and stick to the wall.
