We are painting our bedroom lime green. What kind of theme do we decorate the room with?
-
I chose this color from Behr (sweet Midori) on a whim. I fell in love with the color. But now I'm wondering, what would the theme of the room be? Should I just keep it simple and decorate with white accents and decorations? Thanks for any and all answers.

Answer:
Greens pair with any other color but lime green is bright! My recommendation for you to pull this bold and trendy color off without coming across as busy and overpowering would be to start with a light color base on the walls such as a fresh coat of white paint or light cream and then bring the color into the room, opposite of what you are thinking. Use this Midori, which you love, as an accent wall behind your bed or paint a piece/pieces of your furniture. Paint should be the last thing to consider to harmonize what else is going on. It makes it a lot easier. Then choose a bold stripe (or graphic pattern) for your window treatments and/or bedding incorporating the dominating color of lime with some other colors which you would use to accent with. I personally would choose magenta (fushia) or purple as my secondary color (orange or red would also work) and some other color. Lime Green is between yellow and green so these will work and these have real punch. Balance the strong visual lines of the treatment by adding solid elements such as black in picture frames, lamp shades, maybe a wooden side chair or side table, shelf unit, sconces, or candles. You could use the purple or magenta in a seat cushion or bed pillows. When I am sometimes stuck, I think of what goes on outdoors. If you think of hydrangeas, hyacinths, iris's and pansies with their bright stems and leaves you would get an idea of how those colors work together. These are shades of purple. I also think of fashion. Lime Green works well with tan, browns, pinks, dark orange, navy blue and gray. I don't know what you have for color on your floor but a charcoal shade would balance the room. It is neutral or any beige, or tan. 60% of the room (whether it is the wall or floor) would be your dominant color. 30% would be your bedding color and 10% would be the color to use for your accent that you would use sparingly around the room with repetition. Find the inspiration choices from your bedding or artwork. Here is a nice link for color scheming. You can look at a monochromatic (shades of the same color), complementary (opposite colors on the wheel), triadic (forming a triangle on the wheel) and analogic (three colors next to each other), etc. Click on your lime green shade on the large wheel,(I have done that for you and hope it shows when you click) then go across the top smaller ones to pull up the combinations which pair well with lime green. Majenta, purple and lime green work well together if you want to paint the walls lime green. Or, majenta, red and lime. Another combo could be indigo (purlish blue), red orange and lime. Hope this helps you. I couldn't make this a shorter answer, sorry. http://colorschemedesigner.com/

Chocolate brown & white are both good colors with lime green. You might want to look online at HGTV for some decorating tips, photos, etc. They should have some photos of rooms done with lime green. Oddly, another good color with lime is deep purple (eggplant, etc.). You might consider this as an accent color.

I looked at the color and it reminds me of the colors of the beach and the ocean. Use blues as some of your accent colors. Maybe the rug could even look like sand. You could do a Hawaiian/Tiki theme. Maybe even a mural of a sunset in Hawaii with the ocean, sand and palm trees in it. Make sure the ocean has the greenish color in it. Your furniture and decorations should look kind of outdoorsy, and beachy, included with tiki torches. Even maybe a palm tree comforter, or border on the wall. And an aquarium would also look cool.

A room doesn't need a theme, but just a color scheme. If you love the color find bedding that works with it. Blues or light purples look great with lime and are soothing for a bedroom. Send us a link of the exact color and I'll try to help you find bedding.

That is the color of my bed room. I have my window treatments a yellow with multi colors of butterflies. I have a butterfly/flower theme, myself. many bright colors will go with it quite well.

That shade of green w/white trim would look great - bright, crisp & clean. You may want to add another color or two in with that - could be a contrasting color like a pink, coral, or other reddish color, or you could go blue, or yellow. I think any of those would look nice. Also, consider texture which adds to your decor - like a natural sisal rug could look attractive or big pillows with a texture, etc. Theme? - umm - a cottage look, with florals; a tropical look; a sleek, contemporary style? It all up to you & what works with your furniture or what you like & can afford.

i love green and i think it would be great to decorate your room around it, you dont have to really have a theme but just have a cute room that you would love to be in and you could just get a plain white bedspread or a brown one andjust add some fun pillows to give it some pop
