Best way to attach paper mache to a painted fiberboard table?

• I want to make an unusual coffee table. I have an oval fiber board table with steel legs. I want to attach paper mache to it. Okay, what is the best paper mache paste to use for furniture? How can I seal the paper mache sculptural parts when it's done so it's water proof, and what would be the beast way to adhere the paper mache parts to the table? Thanks so much!

  It's fairly common now to use elmers white glue thinned with water for paper mache. it's more durable than the flour water paste we used to use as kids, and it's still non toxic. To attach the paper parts to the wood, the same white glue will work fine. If you want to glue to the metal, there are a lot of choices. epoxy would be one that's readily available and good. Just go to the hardware store an read the glue labels until you find one that glues metal and paper. For coating and waterproofing, I suggest a good spar varnish.
