How is a Motorcycle Jacket made?

I put kiwi mink oil on new leather jacket, now it's super sticky/grabby - like a jacket made of rubber - help!

• Ugh. I bought a new, black leather jacket recently because the black finish had worn off my previous one on all the places it would usually brush up against/rub things. Based on advice, I decided to preventatively treat the new jacket with Kiwi Mink Oil (which also contains silicone and lanolin). However, now the jacket is *extremely* sticky/grabby. It almost like wearing a rubber jacket with a very high coefficient of friction (super grabby). It makes very noisy rubber squeaking sounds when I rub up against things like leather car seats. The jacket is also showing friction marks in a weird way and attracting dust. Also, the stuff doesn't wipe off! I'd never used mink oil before on anything. I think there are other "mink oils" that don't contain the silicone and lanolin. So I'm wondering if I used the wrong kind of "mink oil". Does anyone have any idea what I did wrong and have any advice on how to de-rubberize what used to be a nice, soft, leather jacket?

  Mink oil is not good for todays leathers, we are unsure why the myth persists that you need to oil your leathers. The best thing to use is a water based cleaner and protector. Leather needs moisture not oils. If you use things with oils and silicones as you have found they leave a residue on the surface which attracts more dirt. Try giving is a good clean with a water based cleaner and see if that will remove any of the residue. If it doesn't then I think you will have to refer to a leather specialist to remove the problem
