How do I clean black mold?

Black stuff/mold in freezer. How should i clean it?

  • When we went home for winter break from college, we had to clean out and unplug our fridges. mine has a small but separate freezer part on top with a seperate door and what not and now there are spots of black mold i assume in it. WHy did this happen if it was empty and how should i clean it?

It happened because the fridge was shut off and got warm, and if the door was closed, that created a humid environment favourable for mold. Best to leave a fridge open even just a little if it's going to be shut off for any more than a couple of days. You should be able to clean it off with some bleach. Just dampen a cloth with a bleach and water solution. Bleach kills mold. Rinse it with a cloth wet with plain water to get the bleach off, and let it dry before using the fridge again.
