How can I get rid of old pee stains in the carpet?

  • Hi, I have 2 dogs that I am having problems house training. 1 is an Australian Sheperd that is 4 years old and the other is a Rottweiler/Border Collie mix that is 6 months old. Since they are not house trained, they do often go in the house. I try to watch them as much as I can, but I can't always. Whenever I turn my back atleast one of them are walking out of the dining room (which, don't worry; is a room my family isn't often in anyways). So there are some old urine stains that have really sunk into the carpet. I have a carpet cleaner but it will take several hours to get the carpet 100% clean again, if that is even possible. If you know any ways to get old pee stains out of the carpet, or if you know some affective house training skills that would work on both puppies and older dogs, that would be great. Thank you for your help, Bob

  • Answer:

I have been cleaning carpets for over 16 years now and I have found a product that I now sell called Pet Stain & Odor Remover. It not only removes the stain, but eliminates the enzymes that are in urine that keep the dogs coming back time and time again, marking their spot. With older stains the problem us usually deeper in the carpet into the padding of the carpet, so even with a surface cleaner, you may not be able to remove the entire stain. Sometimes you need to hire a carpet cleaning company to come and remove the stain from the carpet as well as the padding. Even if you tried your carpet cleaner, that may not have enough power to clean the padding, as most carpet cleaners don't. If you are only talking about one room the price shouldn't be to high. Good Luck!

I have the same problem with my dog also. I found a new product while trying to answer the same question and found that Oxy Boost works the best. I always let it sit on the carpet a little longer than it said to if the stain was really bad and it came right up!

There's a product I use working at the animal shelter, it's called Anti-icky-Poo, works great on both stains and odors.

I would just change the floor into a darker floor really there is nothing much that will remove the stains
