How do I remove glue from a coat?

How do you remove super glue from a down coat?

  • My nephew was fixing something and got super glue on my down coat. He tried to clean it up but now it is all white and still has glue on it. what can I do to fix this or am I out of luck.

    This may or may not work depending on the quality and fragility of the material, but you could try using a solvent to dissolve the glue. Of course, solvents for super glue are harsh chemicals and may stain the garment. A suitable and common solvent would be acetone, found in nail polish removers. Always dilute it with 1 part water to 3 parts acetone or 50/50 depending on the garment and keep rubbing softly until the glue is dissolved. Do this in a well ventilated place to reduce inhalation of chemicals. EDIT: @Simon, really? Where do you live? O.o.. Acetone is still used in all the nail polish removers we stock here in the UK. There are acetone free alternatives available here, but they still contain ethyl acetate, which is a solvent in itself.. (although a less aggressive one)

Good theory but you may have trouble finding nail polish remover with acetone, since it was removed a while ago due to it dissolving the glue used in false nails. I had super glue on a coat once, and I got most of it out by rolling the fabric between finger and thumb until it cracked and flaked off.

Try using acetone nail polish remover, but test it on an hidden part first in case it causes more dammage. Use a cotton bud and work very gently. Freezing it will cause the glue to flake off but would leave a mark underneath.

It wont work sorry...... but it wont hurt to try few things... melt it and wipe it off. freeze it and break it off. scrape it carefully and break it off gradually. Take it to the cleaner and see what they suggest.
