How Do I Get Better Crispy Bacon?

How in the world do you get a sickly bacon odor out of a microwave oven?

  • We just bought a house and it came with a microwave... needless to say, it had so much bacon grease inside that it really smells! I've cleaned it numerous times, and I've left baking soda in it for a week to hopefully soak up the odor. I suspect some bacon grease made it into a top vent inside the microwave. I once saw professional house cleaners remove strong odors from a microwave oven by first scrubbing it with a baking soda & water mixture...rinsing, drying & then heating a bowl of distilled white vinegar mixed with water in the microwave. Here are some online links that explain it: http://www.whitehousefoods.com/recipeDETAIL2.asp?id=25 To clean your microwave oven, put a microwave-safe bowl of 1/2 cup vinegar and 1 cup water in the oven, and cook long enough to boil. In addition to removing any lingering odors, this will loosen any baked-on food from the microwave's walls. http://www.thenewhomemaker.com/node/277 Clean the microwave by mixing 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar and 1/2 cup water in a microwave-safe bowl. Bring it to a rolling boil inside the microwave. Baked-on food will be loosened, and odors will disappear. Wipe clean. http://www.vinegartips.com/cleaning/ Eliminate cooking odors by using 1 tablespoon of white vinegar to 1-cup of water. Boil white vinegar in water to eliminate unappealing odors left over from cooking. http://gardenandhearth.com/ApartmentLiving/Vinegar-To-Clean.htm Good luck with your microwave...Hope this works for you!

I think you should just invest in a new one. If the grease got inside i wouldnt want to chance a fire.

I have used; 1 cup of vinegar with two cinnamon sticks and few cloves in a bowl, heated for five minutes to deodorize. Should this fail I would suggest that you take a bag of brickettes and some newspapers and fill the microwave oven (line it with plain paper to avoid print marks) and let it sit for a few days to remove the odors. Good luck!

If it's got grease in the vent, I'd be worried about a fire hazard. Just go out and buy a new one- you can get a decent one for around $40.

Put a bowl of water and lemon juice in it for like a minute or so and it'll deodorize the scent.

Try boiling lemon juice with water a few times. If that doesn't work, nothing will and you should buy a new one anyway.

Use orange cleaner. It's a spray that they sell in stores. Either that, or lysol wipes.

You can put a dish in the microwave with half vinegar and half water let it microwave about 4-5 minutes it works!!!!

I use a cup of water with real lemon juice in it, place it in the microwave on HIGH.. and heat it to a boil .. let it boil down a bit .. then turn it off .. and let it sit in the microwave for about an hour. Then clean up as you normally would. It works! Good Luck! :)

Take a whole lemon and slice it up like you're gonn make something pretty with it. Then you put a microwave safe bowl full of water and baking soda (6Tbsp.) Toss in the lemons and nuke till it boils! Then you stop the microwave and let it sit with the door closed until the water has time to cool off and the steam has done it's work. Just wipe down the inside with a paper towel when you're done, and this should do it. No more nasty smell, and a lemony fresh scent!!!
