Does homemade laundry soap work as good as the store bought?

• Could someone please be honest with me about this before I go out and buy the ingredients. I am very interested in making my own laundry soap, preferably the powder, however I wonder if it works as good as people say it does. I see several online recipes but never in reviews as to whether the stuff really works. If you are someone who regularly makes their own laundry soap, would you say it works really good for your clothes and actually cleans them? A lot of people have told me that the home made soap works just as well but bc it does produce a lot of suds people think their clothes are not being clean? Also, I typically wash my clothes in cold water. I would like to know if I HAVE to have a food processor to grind the bar soap up to a powder consistency or is there another tool on the market similar to a cheese grater that will do the same.   My Grandmother made homemade lye soap that my mother used to wash the dirty jeans in. Do not think many people make their own soap in this day and age. You may as well experiment with a small batch and see how it does. My guess is if you make the soap correctly , it should clean the clothes adequately. I wish you well .
