What is the cheapest time of day to run dishwasher and do laundry?
-
I've just become a single mom and was wondering about ways to cut down my electric bill so what time of day is the cheapest to run these things?
-
Answer:
It's a nice thought, but no matter what time of day you do it, it will take the same time and same amount of electricity. The only way you could really cut back is to say machine wash your laundry then line dry it. The dryer uses more electricity by far, Hand washing dishes will use less water, less hot water and less electricity. Both of these suggestions will unfortunately require more labor. But anyway sweetie, best of luck to you and children :)

There used to be a saying "Wait till 8" meaning eight in the evening. A call to your power company would tell you if your area has off peak hours. They should also offer other suggestions to save electric. Keep lights off your not using. Run washer, dryer, dishwasher only when you have a full load. Most things can be safely washed in cold water and that is a big energy saver. Unplug any small appliance and plug in only when you need to use it. Good Luck

Not sure, but using only cold water when washing cuts down your bill.

Whenever the neighbors are away from home so you can do it in their machines.

Middle of night or late in the evening. That is why most new washers/dryers/dishwashers come with timers so you can set them to turn on at night, even if you are in bed......

I have always heard morning was the best time but call your electric company & ask them for sure.

dishwasher - full loads, on energy saver feature, if you machine has it, air dry only, regular cycle, no pot scrubber, no heated drying laundry - full loads only wash and rinse in cold water only. dry at the coolest temp possible to get the clothes dry. do laundry back to back to take advantage of the residual heat in the dryer

Electricity costs the same no matter when you use the appliance. But I often wash my laundry at night and use the heat from the washer and dryer to suppliment my heating system.

I think the electric amount doesn't change no matter what time of the day. I have found to cut down on running the dish washer. I hand wash as much as I can and only run my dishwasher once weekly. I use it only at night. When everyone is sleeping. I turn the heater down to 68 and everyone uses their warming blankets. Before everyone wakes up I turn the heater up to 72 to warm the house. As far as washing clothes I was between 5am and 7am. Simply nothing is going on in the house everyone is still sleeping (except for me of course). While the weather is nice not to hot or to cold. While at home I open the windows to allow some fresh air in. So I don't have to run the ac. Good Luck on cutting down your electric bill.

I always run these after the kids are in bed, 9 or 10 and then put clothes in dryer just before bed or in the morning.
