How hard is it to get rid of bed bugs?
-
I moved into a fully furnished cottage and we have bed bugs. How hard is it to get rid of them? Are we going to have to get rid of the furniture? How do you get them? And the most important question, how much is this going to cost me to take care of if my landlord does not want to take care of the issue himself?

Answer:
The following link tells you how to achieve the following goals. 1. Kill 100 % bed bugs with efficiency higher than professional services. 2. Get rid of bed bugs with labor effort 10 times lower than the methods needing wash and clean in everywhere. 3. Never receive bed bug bite on bed from the first day of effort. 4. Kill 100% bed bugs without using any chemicals, or any kinds of heating/cooling spray. 5. Bed bugs will not lay new eggs without food, their population will continually drop. 6. Have highest confidence to kill 100% bed bugs because the product seals all of bed bugs in a bedroom and all of bugs suicide when they are seeking food.

First, you may have recourse in court for your landlord not taking care of the problem. I would write him a formal letter - send it restricted mail (the post office can help you with that) and in that letter I would inform the landlord that you have bed bugs and that you expect him to take care of the matter immediately. Give him a time frame to respond, 5 days, 7 days, whatever time period you choose and in the letter tell him if you don't hear from him in that period of time, you will be taking him to court. Filing a small claim is not that hard and for a nominal fee you can file the papers with the court. You will have to pay a process server to serve the papers on him. Now, that being said, you need to deal with the critters right now. I would find a place that sells insecticides and is willing to assist you in picking the correct bug killer and purchase enough to treat your cottage. I would then purchase mattress and box spring covers that totally enclose them and seals them shut. They are the types of covers that people who have allergies would use. Your vacuum is going to be your friend during this process. Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum everywhere and everything. Concentrate on the room where you are having the most issues by vacuuming the entire room EVERYWHERE, not just the carpet, but around the entire edge of the room, the mattress, box springs, all furniture, the walls, the curtains, inside of the heat registers or radiators, inside of the electrical outlets and light switches, lamps, ceiling fixtures. Move stuff around and vacuum not only underneath on the floor, but the bottom of the furniture too. Once you have vacuumed every inch of the room....you need to get rid of the vacuum bag immediately. Put it into a garbage bag, spray the inside of the garbage bag with the bug killer and then seal the bag up and take it outside and away from your house or anyone else's house. Get it to the garbage dump as soon as you can. Once you are all vacuumed, spray the house very well with the bug killer. Make sure that you spray your mattress and box springs, top, bottom sides and once dried, vacuum again and then immediately place it inside of the covers and seal shut. Even if there are bugs left, sealing them inside the covers will kill them. Spray the curtains, heat ducts/radiators, around the whole edge of the room so it goes under the baseboards, the furniture, lifting the cushions and spraying under the furniture and the bottom and inside of the furniture etc. Allow the bug spray to do its thing and then vacuum again and again throw away the vacuum bag in the same manner as above. Constant vacuuming will help keep them away and spraying regularly with bug killer will also help. Wash all of your bedding and area rugs in hot water. This kills the little critters. I would keep track of your expenses (save receipts), your time, etc. to present to the court for reimbursement. Good luck.

bedbugs in UK are on the rise - change bed linen every week, vacuum the mattress and turn it weekly, seal the room and fumigate - and in UK landlord has no option but to do this for you - see the relevant department officer at your local council offices. Don't forget to cover more than just the bed - they live all over the place and are attracted to you when you are asleep.

It is difficult to answer for others. But, I can say about my experiences last year. It was a long battle. I was careful about vacuuming the rugs nearby, I bought small inexpensive tiny boxes that were sticy, and thus trapped the little devils. The bites lasted a long time. I shook out my blankets many times a week. I imagine in warmer than Maine problems could be worse and longer. What I did worked, But it took perseverance and effort.

If you live in the USA, you can get "Avenger" natural bed-bug killer spray. Its ingredients have no dangerous (to you) chemicals in them. The all natural ingredients are: Clove Oil, Peppermint Oil, SLS (soap), Citric Acid, Glycerin, Oleic Acid, Water. I ordered mine from Magellan. It is easy to use and not too expensive. Good Luck

It's very hard to get rid of them. These days they want to mess with trying to kill them with heat. Too expensive and doesn't work. They come in with people on clothing and stuff. Find someone with old pesticides, and have them spray.

Make it the landlords responsibility. If the landlord refuses, move out and sue the inconsiderate jerk.
