How to get smell of paint thinner out of clothes?

  • A few days ago I was babysitting my 8 yr old niece and to fill time she wanted to paint my nails. She ended up getting distracted with something and a dark red nail polish ended up spilling onto my pajama bottoms (1 inch by 5 inch). I tried Era, nail polish remover and even hair spray to get it out, nothing worked. So I though MAYBE this paint thinner would work. Directions said to clean soak in the thinner until the pain dissolved. I didn't use the whole bottle to soak it, only to soak the stained portion. It didn't work; stain is still there. So then I washed the pj bottoms by hand with soap and let them soak in soapy water and then rinses them out with regular water and now I washed them in the washing machine with a few other items. Now, not only do my pajama bottoms smell like paint thinner, so do my other items I had in the machine (my mom though it would be okay to wash the pj bottom with other things). Now, I am washing them again to see if it helps at all. If it doesn't, how to get the smell out?

  • Answer:

wash them again and hang outside to dry. Do not put in the dryer if the smell is still there.
