How to remove mold from velveteen?

• I have a very dress made of expensive real velveteen. However it developed mold spots. I set it in sunlight for a few days and the spots went away. Then I had it professionally dry cleaned. After that it looked all right. But after a few months the mold reappeared in the same spots. I have found some tips on how to remove mold by washing but velveteen cannot be washed. Please tell me what the specific mold removal method is for un-washable velveteen clothing.

  Your dry-cleaner should know but I have a few suggestions. Log on to both the Good Housekeeping & Martha Stewart sites and ask your question there. They're both supposed to be good for questions like that. Or write to the magazines for help. You may even get it published. I can't help you but I know to get rid of mold, you need to air out the room or washable product & there are products that you put in a plastic bag & seal it up with the moldy item --I believe it's charcoal that is used to remove the mold. But I think it's more for odors than for the mold itself. Mold is a living bacteria and apparently, something is damp where you've stored the dress. Do not store anything in plastic cleaner bags; they can breakdown & ruin fabrics. To take mold off walls, you have to use clorox bleach & water and/or a commercial remover but none would work on velvet. Real velveteen is cotton; maybe the steam cleaner in the dry cleaner's place would "kill" the mold? Ask him/her to see if they could steam the dress. I wish you luck but it's hard if the item isn't washable.
