How do you wash off a vest?

How do I acid-wash jeans, denim vest, for an 80's party?

  • I "acid washed" my jeans a couple years ago by spraying bleach (from a spray bottle) onto both sides while they were lying in the bathtub. Worked great, except the bleach was too potent & when wearing the jeans (for an 80's party) they started to fall apart. Ha!!! ALSO, the bleach corroded the metal on the drain. I need to acid wash my denim vest (for another 80's party) & I don't want to make the same mistakes, even though the look was exactly what I wanted! Is there a better way? HELP! & Thank you!

  • Answer:

Generally, acid-washing is done by washing the fabric in a rotating drum containing pumice stones soaked in industrial-strength chlorine. But since that's not really something most people have access to at home, bleach is the usually substitute. You really can't use full strength bleach, though... I'd dilute it 50/50 with water and just keep trying for the desired effect, rinsing between sprayings.
