Where To Buy Soap Base In The Philippines?

Can I use sheep milk or goat milk in liquid castille soap?

  • I found some soap base at a thrift store, but when I went back to buy it the only kind they had was the organic liquid castille base. I really wanted to make some sheep's milk soap with my favorite scent combinations because of how nice it is for dry skin, and saw that this was an option with the glycerin base, but can't seem to find any information about adding milk or other fats to the liquid base. Has anyone tried it? Would I need to worry about the milk going bad? Should I use powdered?

  • Answer:

When working with a premade liquid soap base, you'll want to use powdered milk to avoid problems with spoilage. You won't find much info on how to do this or how much to use because most people buy premade milk soap bases rather than trying to make their own using a non-milk soap base. So the door is open for you to experiment! If I was going to play around with this, I'd take a cup of the soap base, very gently warm it in the microwave, and try adding, say, a couple tsps of powdered milk. I'd stir it in to see how well it dissolved, and set it aside for a couple days to see whether it separates out or stays well-mixed. If I had problems with that, I'd try first mixing the milk powder with just enough water to fully dissolve it and then add that to see what happens. Since you got the base at a thrift store, I'm assuming you got a pretty good price on it, and won't be out too many coins if your experiments aren't satifactory. So have fun and good luck!
