Where should I put the mini fridge in the car?passenger seat?Trunk?

How do i get rid of this rancid smell out of the bottom of my mini-fridge?

  • I'm a college student and just as every other student does i have your average mini-fridge. Just recently my roommates and i began to smell a foul stench but could not tell where it was coming from. After a time consuming search and cleaning process something made me get on the floor and smell the back of the fridge at the bottom where all of the wires and things are at. The smell is coming from around there i think it's mold and mildew in this little compartment down there i'm not sure all i know is the smell is coming from down there. I am baffled at how mold and mildew even got down there. But Anyways HELP! I refuse to throw $100 down the fridge i just got this fridge last semester. HOW DO I GET RID OF THE STENCH AND SANITIZE THE FRIDGE? PLEASE AND THANK YOU

  • Answer:

Part of every refrigeration cycle is the condensation of water out of warm air as it hits the cooling coil. Most refrigerators have a drip tray attached to the bottom of the fridge. They are also designed so that the warm air form the condenser is blown across this drip tray as it leaves the fridge. This alows the water to evaporate. Small fridges dont do this well, so the water is accumulated in that little compartment you saw. It doesn't evaporate as quickly as you would like it to, and so over time dust carries mold spores into the container. Mold is so primative a life form that all it needs to live is... moisture, and air. Warm air blowing down there helps growth. You will have to man up and turn the fridge around so you can clean this compartment. Or pay someone else to do it. after it is emptied of Petri dish experiments, get some bleach and mix it with water. Like 1/4 cup in a quart of water. Pour it into the compartment and leave it there for a half hour. Now empty the container and rinse it out with cold water. The smell should be gone. A word about bleach. This seemingly harmless household cleaning agent is a monster waiting for a chance to do harm. Splash it on clothes, take them off and saturate with water. You might save the garment, but the color is gone. Wait five minutes, the garment is toast. The bleach will so weaken the fibers where it hit the fabric, that it will come out of the first or second wash with the spot torn or disintegrated. If you splash it on the rug, you own the rug. If you get it on your skin, it will start to burn after a few moments. the longer you wait to wash it off the more damage it is doing to the nerve cells in your skin, the more its going to hurt after you run to wash it off. Get it in your eye, flush with cool water IMMEDIATELY, followed by a trip to the emergency room, if you want to save the eye. Thats how dangerous household bleach is. Handle it like lab chemicals. It is Sodium Hypochlorite.

Try a product like Enzym D It's cheapest at Janitorial supply places You can buy the same product in pet supply areas as Urine smell cleaner but it has a much higher markup. Make sure you unplug the fridge before you spray it (might as well take it outside and defrost it as well if it needs it) Spray it down good and make sure it is fully dry before plugging it back in
