What is food poisoning?

What to do when you have food poisoning? :(?

  • I ate out on friday night and got food poisoning. I started to get symptoms about 12 o clock on the following the Saturday and had to leave work early at 3. By this point i had sickness etc and couldn't move without needing to throw up. since then i haven't been able to keep anything in. I'm not particularly worried at the moment as i've read normal food poisoning can last up 2 days. However i was just wondering of the best foods to eat? Also what should I be avoiding? And anyone who could explain what food poisoning actually is would also help. Thanks.

  • Answer:

Food poisoning occurs when you eat or drink something containing bacteria, viruses or toxins which make you sick. It usually clears up within a week and you need to make sure you're drinking a lot of water as vomiting and diarrhoea can cause you to become dehydrated and make you more sick. You might want to give your stomach a rest for a couple of days and avoid food altogether, then slowly introduce foods back into your diet starting with soups and yogurt then moving on to more solid foods and see how your body tolerates it. :-)
