Pharmacist job questions.

Questions for physical therapists?

  • Hey everyone. I'm trying to choose a career between a few different medical fields: PT, optometrist, and pharmacist (I know, they're all really different). If you're a physical therapist could you help me with a few questions? How would you say job satisfaction is for PTs/ you? Is paying off student loans hard, especially now that physical therapy is slowly becoming a doctorate program? If you could, would you switch to another medical field/career, and which one? any advice? thanks

  • Answer:

Hi! First, PT isn't SLOWLY becoming a doctorate degree, it IS pretty much a doctorate degree except for less than 5% of programs in the US. Job satisfaction among therapists is very high and is part of the reason why it was named #4 job for 2010 by payscale.com. However, many argue that the pay is not what it should be for a 7 year degree. I cannot personally comment on paying off loans...my original PT degree was a BS...I had scholarship, and then my employer paid for my transition to a DPT. Many of my new graduate co-workers live with their parents for a few years or, if on their own, live simply until their financial situation improves. However, I'm very satisfied being a PT. I like to solve problems and I like the lifestyle. My next choice would be a speech language pathologist or a physician assistant, but I don't think I'd like the lifestyle of a PA ( you get called in a lot on weekends, etc) I recommend going to the APTA website: www.apta.org and reviewing the student information.
