Can you take an antihistamine and a decongestant at the same time?

Is it ok to take an antihistamine with a panadeine fort?

  • pretty self explanitory ive been perscribed panedine fort for the pain of my leg but i need to take an antihistamine for allergies but i need to know if i can take them at the same time or not thanks :)

  • Answer:

well, it depends with types of antihistamine and the dose that you were prescribed for. First generation antihistamine (eg: diphenyhydramine), common side effect is sedation. The other generation (2nd and 3rd) have less effect on sedation as it enter the brain less likely. Panaidene contain codeine, which is also commonly associated with drowsiness/dizzyness side effects. Thus, if your antihistamine is the first generation, and you take panaidene, the sedative effect will increase. It will affect your coordination.

Other answers

It would be better to call and ask your pharmacist. Panadeine forte contains codeine, if you take an antihistamine that causes drowsiness (like diphenhydramine) each could accentuate the action of the other - ie lead to a lack of coordination.
