What is the difference between a paramedic and an EMT?

What's the difference between an EMT and a Paramedic?

  • And is there a big difference in salary?

  • Answer:

An EMT provides basic life support, including O2, splinting, bandaging, basic airway (OPA and NPA), and basic medications. A paramedic provides advanced support being able to give a wide variety of medications and other procedures(intubation, IO, IV, etc). The difference in pay varies greatly depending on your location. Some places pay a larger difference than other places. Where i live the difference in pay is approximately $10,000 a year.
