I can't swear your instructor will consider this enough of a "new" trend as it's not brand-spanking new, but I think looking at APN issues could be interesting. A CNS focus could be interesting, esp. the fact that SOME states allow prescritpive privileges, others do not do so--yet. However, many CNS practitioners do not apply for the privilege if eligible. I think, too, as managed care continues in its greed to get a free ride at the expense of doctors, patients, and nurses (the CEOs want to make millions and spend pennies), that nurses will be called upon (because of their lower reimbursement costs) to provide far more care now than ever before. While this has some pluses (excellence of nursing care) it will damage nursing as it has the physician's practice. Too often the relationship between physician and patient has become adversarial as the managed care insists on the minimum treatment, reimburses poorly even when it's clear something is covered, thus leaving the patient holding the bag (one he can't afford) and he and the doctor suffer. THIS is the future of nursing if managed care is allowed to continue along its historical path. Nurses bring a different point of view to the profession from the physician or PA, who use the medical model, and that is in danger when money becomes the whip used against them in providing care to their patients. Good luck--try to concentrate on the fascinating aspects of nursing instead of the fact this instructor isn't someone you enjoy.

Current trends refers to anything that is currently fashionable, and yes nursing has trends. An example is moist wound dressings. As scientific knowledge progresses so too does treatment options. Think maggot therapy and the like. Unfortunately I can't help you with what to write your thesis on, but my advice is to stick with what you know or are passionate about, alternatively go with anything to do with aging or diabetes as that is a growing population in all health care sectors. Good luck.

I would have thought current trends in nursing is simialr to asking "where is nursing heading?" or "how is nursing different to how it was in the past". Its different in every country but in Australia you could discuss something like "the movement from hospital based nursing care to the community" or "increasing nursing autonomy" or "the introduction of nurse practitioner role". You could also base it on perception of any of the above with any one or a certain demographic, for example: "nurses perceptions on the emphasis of community based nursing care" Hope this helps and good luck. To me, it sounds like the professor wants to talk about perhaps where the career is actually taking nurses. (SUPPLY AND DEMAND). See this info, written seven years ago: www.azhha.org/public/pdf/issuesAndTren… GOOD LUCK, and GOD BLESS.
