When you are very stressed out, do you lose your appetite?

I am very stressed out and it is causing me to lose my appetite, please help?

  • Without getting into details, I've been going through a lot of stress in my life lately and I can count what I've eaten in the few days on one hand. I am NOT anorexic, do not get that idea in your head. I seriously try to force myself to eat every day but I can't even finish simple, small meals. What can I do to help myself? I'm naturally thin and I can't afford to lose any weight, I'm really scared.

    The reason why you can't eat is because when the body is anxious, it can't make saliver and therefore you can't eat. That's why maybe you'll have a couple of mouthfuls and go off it straight away. What you can try is relaxation techniques like a nice hot bubbley bath with some relaxing music, like jazz or latin style, or reading a mag. Or try eating whilst keeping yourself busy like eating whilst watching a good film or tv programme. When making food, try and make your portions a bit smaller so that you don't feel guilty for throwing a lot away which make you even more anxious. Or maybe try eating around people, while your having a conversation with a friend or something. The main thing is not to make eating a big deal otherwise it's a bit like when somebody points something personal out to you and you become self-concsious; you sort of think to yourself 'ive got to eat this, i cant leave any, i need to eat' etc and that gets you nowhere.

I had this a few years ago and found that stress made me lose all the saliva in my mouth. It was very weird. I overcame it by changing the situation I was in.

I understand where you are coming from. I went through something once and couldn't eat and got down to 95lbs. I know you aren't hungry but try to eat... even if you can't finish it. Make sure what you eat is healthy and not just junk. Even if you have to eat 5 small things a day at least you are eatting... I'm sorry you are going through a tough time even when we think it will never get better... soon it will and you'll be eatting again. I'm sorry you are scard.

okay, you need to find something that you can do that relaxes you--be it a hot bath, massage, exercise--something to relieve some of your tension. I would be worried about your health--not so much your weight--not eating can mess up your stomach and so much more--find something that works for you--best of luck~

My wife has a lot of the same issues, you need to do some relaxation techniques like deep breathing exercises a long hot bath etc.... do a web search on relation exercise. Next offset your stress by doing something fun or entertaining, its hard at first but you will start to feel better.

get checked out by a doctor because you could have digestive problems... try to eat slow-release carbs (wholewheat pasta, brown bread etc.) which is the most fillng... sorry babe but i don't know what else to suggest...

why do not you start by diagnosing what really bothers you and what makes you stresed out. you say it causes me to lose my appetite but you do not even know what it is. then you are used to whin stop complaining. I can only suggest you find something else which makes you feel better way. actually the thing that tells you that you are sick is your subconscious mind. because it try to keep you the way it is used to. ıf you change your habits and addiction it is gonna work for you. just focus on your feel better than ever. image how you are gonna feel when you feel diffirent way. try to see them as if realized. I hope it works..
