What is the life of an RN like?

If I become a RN, will it interfere with my home life?

  • I am looking into going to school to become a RN. I definitely think I will be successful, but my fiancee and I are worried it will interfere with our home life. He works Monday-Friday, wakes up at 5:45 AM, leaves by 6:30 AM, and returns home by 4 PM, weekends off. I understand that there are so many different shifts and environments I could work that it is hard to pin-point just one. For those of you who are a RN or have loved ones who are a RN, please give me your input. We have a wonderful relationship and are planning to start a family in the future and I wouldn't want to put a damper on thing

  • Answer:

RNs, like any other position in a heath-care facility will have to take the shift that is offered to them (if they want to work there). This will probably be off shift (evenings or nights) and weekends. As for being called in, it's possible that your job will include some 'on-call' situations, where you're home, but are on-call to go in if needed. In short, it's possible that your career choice will interfere with home life from time to time.
