How do you treat a spider Bite?
-
I was bit last night i guess by a spider, and it really hurts now. I feel kinda weak, and crappy, but i don't know if that had anything to do with it...

Answer:
More than 50 spiders in the U.S. have venom and on the most part cause non serious reactions. Usually, the bites are irritating and swell for 1 or 2 days (much like a bee sting). Most single, unexplained, tender bites that occur during the night are due to spiders, I just got one 2 weeks ago. But on the most part, spider bites aren't harmful to a lot people except for those who are allergic or have been bitten by a toxic spider. The toxic spiders I know to in my area to avoid, are the black widow and brown recluse spiders because their venom contains toxins, that can cause medical problems. However, non-dangerous spider bites cause a slight discomfort for a limited time after being bitten. The best way to treat a spider bite is to thoroughly wash the area that was bitten with soap and water, you can take acetaminophen or ibuprofen as needed for pain. If pain persists or if you develop symptoms such as fever, vomiting, muscle pain, difficulty breathing or swallowing or the bite area looks infected you should get immediate medical attention.

You should really see a doc to be on the safe side. A friend of mine nearly lost his leg after trying to treat a spider bite on his own. Turned out to be a brown recluse.

depends on the spider. if it's a brown recluse it could be pretty bad. I got bit on 2 separate occasions. The first one was cleared up by my doctor's script for an antibiotic. The second time the doc wasn't available. So I had to take a sterile surgical blade and cut out the pus myself (yes, that hurt), and then put hydrogen peroxide on it and wash it out really good. I think I took Ginseng, vitamin C, and zinc supplements to help my immune system. If you don't konw what you're doing with a knife, don't do this!!! tom
