How can I quit smoking? (Ex-smokers' advice please)?

  • I have problems with other habits as well.. I found that haloperidol helped me keep from biting my fingernails for it was actually a kind of "tic" due to tourettes.. A lot of people I know say that it's easy to quit smoking - for I don't know if I can.. It's probably one of the most enjoying things I can do.. It really is a crutch for me... I found that "Chantix" works incredibly well, - I quit for 2 months without looking back - however finding out my husband never quit like he said he did (he was hiding it from me) - I started again out of spite.. which was really dumb.. I started on Chantix again and it made me suicidal.. Which I found out that is a side-effect from Chantix.. I am sick of the headaches and right now I am starting my yearly bronchitis again.. I can't cough up the gunk in my lungs and I really want to quit.. I don't know what else to do.. Cold turkey isn't an option for me because it is like giving up...air.. It's impossible.. Plus my husband smokes so that makes it doubly difficult to quit.. I am willing to take medications as long as they don't have nicotine in them, because that doesn't get me away from nicotine.. It keeps the addiction alive.. Is there any improvements on Chantix yet? - Some that don't cause depression and/or suicidal tendencies?.. I would like some other advice than just "just throw them away and quit - it's easy" - because it is anything but easy for me.. I have tried that.. (I've been smoking since I was 18 years old.. and I'll be 33 in July.. So it has been almost 15 years now.. goodness I'm getting old)

    Be aware of ... - No one can quit if not entirely convinced to do so. - There's no best nor easy way to quit. - Everyone is different in the way they stop smoking. - What worked for someone might not work for others. - The only way to tell if any given method works or not for someone is to try it. - Anything to stop that habit is worth it. I quit two years ago. It wasnt easy. I'll admitt it. I went pretty much cold turkey. I smoked my lasy pack and said that was it. I was pretty darn grumpy the first week. it got better after that. i drank TONS of water. I also started chewing gum like crazy. I liked it smoke in the car, so whenever i got in the car to go somewhere, i popped some gum in my mouth. Two years later, and i still have to do this! LOL... its not going to be easy, but it will definantly be worth it.

You really want to quit so u say but on the other hand u say its like air and its impossible. Do you know what you said.?? #1 STOP BEING SUCH A WORRY WORT. If you really wanted something bad enough you wont built walls around your prize that are inpossible for you to climb. I see you as a ladder that keeps falling down. U climb and get to a certain point then u fall bc u put a wall there. If you want to quit #1 stop believing that you have to take something to make you bc only you in the end can do it not some majic pill

"The Easy Way to Quit Smoking" by Allen Carr buy this book from your local book store, i smoked for 25 years and after i read this book i became a non-smoker. the quitting process was very easy, and enjoyable. I never craved a cigarette or got irritable or had any of the other symptoms that are associated with quitting. The whole process was easy and enjoyable 100% of the people that i know whom have read this book quit smoking. It really works. FYI : don't use the patch or gum, you are addicted to nicotine, would you tell an alcoholic who wants to quit to drink light beer?
