What is the most powerful nasal decongestant available?

It it okay to take nasal decongestant PE with Nyquil?

  • I'm not sure what I have, possibly the flu or a really really nasty cold. The only ingredient in the nasal decongestant is Phenylephrine. It's the only thing that stops me from coughing like a lunatic and prevents the major drainage going down the back of my throat. The Nyquil has Acetaminophen (for the migraines I've been getting), Doxylamine and Dextromethorphan, which is a cough supressent and an antihisamine. I'll probably be able to get some decent sleep if I can take both of these once my previous medications run out of my system. The only thing I haven't been able to fix is my sore throat. I have cough drops, but I don't want to sleep with them in my mouth. Anyway, would those two things be okay to take, or not? I figured it would be since the warning labels on them just warn about not taking a ton of medication that has acetaminophen in it.

  • Answer:

Phenylephrine is what drug dealers make Meth from. By itself it can cause your heart to beat fast (tachycardia), and can cause you to feel jittery or not able to sleep. It is not dangerous, but you can get the side effects I mentioned. I use Nyquil without the PE. Some people drink several bottles of Nyquil PE to get a high. That is very dangerous.
