How can I stop my shoes from squeaking?

How do you stop shoes from squeaking?

I have a pair of ladies Merona brand black leather sandals and believe it or not the leather bands squeak when I walk! Any way to stop this?

The "Ask Andy About Clothes" site suggests applying a little "saddle soap" between the leather parts which are rubbing and squeaking (see ref #1). The "thriftyfun" site suggests using a little baby powder (see ref #2).
