Where can I buy gold dust?

What kind of jewlery cleaner do I need to buy for white gold?

  • Is there a jewlery cleaner that I can use for all types? For my white gold, gold, and silver? It seems I'm finding types that will only do gold, or just silver or platinum. What will happen if I put white gold in a cleaner that does silver? Or if I put white gold in a cleaner that does gold? Will it ruin my jewlery? http://www.amazon.com/Hagerty-7-Ounce-Jewelry-Cleaner-White/dp/B000BQO4Y6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1256872261&sr=8-1 Cleans diamonds, precious stones, platinum, and gold jewelry (OK, so what about my rings with diamonds that is made with white gold? can I put it in here?) Or this one? http://www.amazon.com/Hagerty-Silver-Foam-Cleaner-19-Ounce/dp/B000QRDO96/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1256872261&sr=8-2 Used for the very finest sterling, silver-plate, or gold what's silver-plate? Is white gold silver plated? Can I put my white-gold in here? I want something I could use for all my types of jewlery. Or do I need to buy three different kinds (one for silver, one for gold, and one for white gold)? I've never seen a kind for white gold. I tried to buy one for silver once -and the lady said that if I had white gold that wasn't good for white gold... so I asked if I should buy the gold one instead, and she said that wouldn't work either. The store didn't have a third option, so I left without buying anything for white gold. What the heck??? Totally confused....

  • Answer:

First off, I would NOT use any liquid chemical cleaners on ANY pieces with gemstones in them period!!!! When it comes to pieces with gemstones(colored or diamonds) one should NOT use chemical cleaners, sonic cleaners, ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, etc. It can cause damage to the stones and/or treatments if they are treated. I find that a used soft bristle toothbrush + that nice foaming hand soap + luke warm water and a little scrubbing action will shine stones and jewelry of all metals right up!! For heavier cleaning I use a polish called ZAM and impregnate it into a soft cotton cloth by rubbing the stick of ZAM on one half of the cloth. Then use that half to buff the metal, but do NOT use it on the stone as it could mess the polish up on a faceted gemstone(but it can actually help the polish on a cabochon cut gemstone) and then use the clean side of the cloth to buff/rub the ZAM back off, this will put a mirror shine on silver and gold! And it will add a nice polish back onto cabochon gemstones like turquoise. A little trick of the trade I picked up over a decade ago.
