Will my fingers stop swelling?

What is causing this swelling?

  • Hi guys, I originally posted a similar question a few weeks back in pain management but I'm hoping to get different/more detailed answers. My hands, feet, fingers, toes, ankles and legs seem to be almost constantly swollen. For years, I just thought I was"big"though I'm not overweight, but several people have suggested these areas infact look and feel swollen. Sometimes I get an uncomfortable pulling sensation in my legs. I'm not overweight nor pregnant. I don't have high blood pressure and I tend to cook from scratch so don't eat much salt. I'm just trying to get an idea of what is causing this swelling. Its quite uncomfortable now so I'd also like to know how to stop it. Thank you

It seems, fortunately, you don't have pain in joints. Still, it would be a good idea to check and rule out arthritis. Is there a family history? Then it will become more necessary. Hope it helps, good luck!

Swelling can have several possible causes, such as edema from lung problems, or from injury such as broken bones. Swelling can also be caused by the removal of lymph nodes. Swelling is apparent when the extremities feel stiff, uncomfortable bending joints, and the skin feels tight. If the flesh shows all the wrinkles and folds filled in, if pressing a finger to the area and then releasing shows no lingering depression in the tissue, if you find it uncomfortable to walk or have trouble getting your shoes on or have trouble grasping things, these could all be signs of swelling. Persistent swelling is always a symptom of another problem. If you have no other symptoms it could be nothing more than dehydration. However, swelling without symptoms could also be a sign of high blood pressure (hypertension) which is generally a silent disease. First of all, you should make an appointment with your Primary Care Physician. Your body is telling you that there may be something wrong. Secondly, increase your intact of pure water (water unadulterated with tea or coffee or any other additives) and take a measure of salt as well. Your body is primarily water and salt - you need to replenish both daily, as much is lost in perspiration and mucous. Read the book Your Body's Many Cries for Water for more details. Finally, I treat my edema with herbs, specifically Gotu Kola and Ginkgo Biloba. They work to improve circulation and repair blood vessels. Unlike many herbs, I've managed to achieve relief in less than six hours. If you think you should take one or the other, herbs actually work best in combination.
