How many bowel movements a day?

  • my bf said ur supposed to have atleast 2 bowel movements a day and if not your backed up and that going to the bathroom cleans you out and makes ur stomach not bloated. I barely go 3 times a week. i am always bloated and i even heard if i start using the bathroom more itd make me lose some of my stomach.. What will make me go to the bathroom and clean me out??

Once a day is average, twice a day is OK. You need to go to WebMd.com and type in constipation and read up on the dietary changes you need to make so that you will become more regularly. And, increased daily water intake is a key component in constipation.

IT IS A MISCONCEPTION THAT YOU HAVE TO "GO" EVERYDAY. SOME PEOPLE ONLY GO EVERY THREE DAYS. AND SOME PEOPLE GO THREE TIMES A DAY. YOU SHOULD ONLY GET CONCERNED IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A BOWEL MOVEMENT FOR 7 DAYS OR MORE. IF YOU ARE ALWAYS BLOATED IT IS BEST TO GO TO YOUR DR. YOU MAY BE JUST BE CONSTIPATED OR IT COULD BE MORE SERIOUS.

The average and social norm is once a day. However, medically bowel movements are considered in the normal range from 3 times a week to 3 times a day (we laughed when our lecturer said this).

You should go once to twice a day. Get more fibre in your diet, maybe try some Slippery Elm, Dulcolax, Lactulose, I don't know what they're called if you're american! But Slippey Elm is a herbal remedy and very good.

Take fiber supplements. This will help you have more bowel movements. It all depends on what you eat. If you eat more dairy then fruits..you're going to have problems going. Also, try doing a colon cleanse. It's pretty gross, but you feel sooo much better. You're less bloated, and you feel like you have more energy.

Well he is wrong. That isn't the cause of your bloating. The only way to get a smaller stomach is to eat better, lose weight, or see a doctor to see what the medical cause is.
