What are the purple lumps?

The doctor found lumps in my mom's throat. What could this be?

• The doctor found about 3 lumps in my mom's throat. She had an ultrasound done which revealed the bumps. She has also had a biopsy done by a surgeon who also used a camera to go down her throat. He said there were large and hard lumps. The results will take 2 weeks but he said that it seems surgery will have to be done regardless of what it is identified as. My mom has lost a lot of weight. About 20 pounds in a matter of a few months. She has also been very tired and fatigued. However, we all assumed this was due to the sudden passing of my dad over the summer. Some people hvae said it could be a TB infection which could have been triggered due to the stress of my dad's passing. Im curious as to what it is. What are the possible illnesses that the results could indicate? Thank you.

  There are a few. I am sure that you are thinking cancer and that is a distinct possibility. There are other things that it could be too. I do not have nearly enough information here to tell you what it is but I can with absolute certainty tell you that it isn't TB.
