How bad is arthritis pain?

How can i get my doctor to prescribe me a certain pill that helped my arthritis pain tremendously? halp!?

  • So, a friend offered me a Tramadol when i was experiencing some severe arthritis pain (i have rheumatoid :/ ) and holy cow did it make a difference. Usually i pop some aspirin or ibuprofen or acetaminophen and sometimes they help. But usually barely helps at all. But i took this tramadol and it completely knocked out the pain. How can i ask for this pill without looking like a druggy trying to get my fix?

    If you have rheumatoid arthritis your pain is coming from the inflammation in your joints. So masking it with tramadol isn't going to fix or treat the cause of it. Are you on any other medication like Methotrexate, Plaquenil, Sulfasalazine or Imuran? Or a biologic drug like Remicade, Enbrel or Humira? These are the medications you need to be on. They slow the disease down and help prevent damage. Most doctors wouldn't have a problem prescribing tramadol. I have arthritis and I told my doctor I was having trouble getting to sleep and she offered me Tramadol to take on my bad nights. I turned it down. Then again when I was diagnosed with hepatitis (a symptom of my arthritis), she offered to me again for pain relief but I turned it down. I wouldn't mention to your doctor that you took someone else's medication. But just tell him/her that you're in a lot of pain (you could say it's difficult to sleep) and you're wondering if there's something you could take. They may suggest coedine/vicodin first. I think you'd want to reassure the doctor it's only for your bad days as this medication can be addictive. Good luck. .....

Hi, I was diginosed with Fibromyalgia and prescribed with tremodal..wish it could help me to get rid of the pain...but AWSOME that works for you. I would just tell you Doc. that you were told from another friend with the same disease recomended Tremodal for you, becuase it helps him and what you have isnt helping a bit...

have you tried celebrex? tramadol was given to my dog after serious surgery. if you have bad pain,that's chronic and not controlled:you can ask to be sent to a pain management doctor.

lol nice. We've all been there, though I can't tell you wtf Tramadol is. If it's specifically for arthritis, I would ask for it. Not sure if Docs can check what you've been prescribed, but if you know they don't, I'd say a past Dr. has prescribed it and it worked. If you haven't tried Vicodin, I know someone who goes to the ER, swears he fell on his back and it's a lvl 10 pain and he gets Vicodin prescriptions. Or, if you have an old football injury (or cheerleading) or something along the lines, you could say you hurt that so it may show up on X-Ray.

If you're having a lot of pain, talk to your rheumatologist, it might be due to inflammation. There are other drugs out there than Tramadol, Ibuprofen, ect. that are stronger and might help!
