Anyone got any cures/ advice for dizziness/nausea?

  • my mum who is 70 suffers with dizziness and feeling sick- nay advice- cures? thanks

  • Answer:

you may want to have her go for a check up. That may be signs and symptoms of much more dangerous disease. Nausea may also be associated with lack of oxygen, fresh air, may help. there are also a group of drugs known as anti emetics, they prevent the sensation of nausea.

this is a complicated medical question in your mother's age group, and I would not advise quack remedies. It may be simply migraine or a peptic ulcer, or it could be a cardiac complaint, or something worse intracerebral. She needs to have a full medical history taken quesations on eg exercise tolerance, appetite loss, weight loss, duration of onset of symptoms, relationship with foods etc, blood test, blood pressure check, cardiogram etc. I am a doctor so you are getting free advice here.

could be she is lacking iron, invest in some iron tablets they wont do any harm but will harden her stools, hope she gets better soon

THE FEELING SICK IS PROPERLY A RESULT OF THE DIZZINESS, IT COULD BE A COUPLE OF THINGS WRONG WITH HER,EITHER LOW BLOOD PRESSURE, OR IRON DEFICIENCY. SHE WOULD BE BETTER GOING TO SEE THE DOCTOR AND HAVING HER BLOOD PRESSURE TAKEN,AND MAYBE A BLOOD TEST DONE.

Get the jack daniels or vodka.

Both of those can be symptoms for far more serious problems...see a doctor immediately!

First, see a doctor. Always good advice to start with someone who knows her history and other medical problems. Could be something as simple as a need for her medication to be adjusted. Dizziness in the elderly should be checked by a physician as it puts them at risk for falls and severe injury. For simple nausea, I find that ginger tablets or ginger tea sipped slowly generally does the trick for me. Good luck!

Hi Jane J, I don't know your mums full medical history but I care for my mum who's 81 years old and she has these symptoms and if I can offer any help I would be glad to tell what happens with my mum. My mum lives with me now and has done for 10 years. As other answer'ee have posted maybe a wee home visit if necessary just to get mum an full mot done by her GP would be good and he's well paid for this service. Mum gets dizziness and nausea with low blood pressure I have a monitor to keep an eye on this as she can also get high blood pressure. Mum also feels dizziness and unwell if she has an chest infection which automatically effects her diabetics and sends it hay wire. I get mum to drink lots of water to stop her from dehydrating when she feels unwell or dizzy which works well. I also give her two dry cream crackers for the sickness which works wonders and stops the nausea right away. Mum always has to get the window open to get fresh air when she feels bad and that is in winter or summer. I normally sit with a fleece jacket on and a hot water bottle beside me as I would get cold at this time. If she get cold I pull a lap rug over her legs she is not very mobile now and uses her zimmer frame indoors and wheelchair out doors. Just another thought has your mum had the influenza injection recently this can sometimes make the patient off for 6 - 8 weeks and even longer. My mum doesn't take this now it left her so ill and bad for a whole year this was two years ago. Hope your mum feel better soon lol.
