well this is what I heard causes ringing in ears. If a person spends a large portion of their life in a loud envireonment, the brain becomes accustomed to always hearing noise. If the noise is taken away, the brain isn't used to silence so it has to create a sound of its own(not a real sound , just in the person's head) so that it can keep hearing sound. If I am in a silent room , I really can't hear silence, there is always a slight buzzing. that is why I now fall to sleep with quiet music playing. this can happen with other senses too. there was one allergy drug that the user would have to spray up there nose. Although this was effective in stopping the allergies, it wiped out any sense of smell that the user had. After a while of not being able to smell, some users reported that one day they started randomly smelling a terrible, rancid smell that eventually continued nonstop no matter where they were. It was eventually figured out that the brain is used to smelling every day, and when the person becomes unable to smell, the brain makes up a smell of its own. she could try always listening to music in the backround

I have meniere's disease which includes tinnitus. When mine acts up I move my jaw all around, like big yawns and side to side to see if that stops it. She should be seeing an ENT (Ears, Nose, and Throat) doctor who can correctly treat her. Mine usually goes away on it's own, if moving my jaw doesn't help, and I've learned to ignore it until it does. But she should know what's causing her tinnitus if she doesn't already.
