What causes kidney Infection?

What causes a kidney infection?

  • Answer:

The single most common cause of a kidney infection is a bladder infection that goes untreated. The bacteria travel up the ureters, which are two tubes that carry waste from the kidneys down to the bladder. When an infection is severe enough and lasts long enough, the bugs just travel up and make a home in the kidneys. Kidney infections are more serious than bladder infections because your kidneys are so important to the waste processing in your body. They are also harder to treat, and may require a slightly longer or stronger course of antibiotics. However, the prognosis with proper treatment from a doctor is good, and usually the infection clears up with no major problems. If you have been diagnosed with one, simply follow your doctor's course of antibiotic treatment. The pain and tenderness should go away within a few days, so be sure to take all of your medicine, even after you begin feeling better, so that the infection is completely cured. Like all bacteria, the bugs that cause kidney and bladder infections can become resistant to antibiotics, and both can become chronic if not treated promptly, so it's best to get them killed off the first time around. I wish you the best of luck.

If it is repeated could be a faulty valve in the kidney which allows backflushing and causes infection. A curve at the end of the spine such as those seen in very mild spina bifida also causes frequent infections as it catches the bladder.

I understand a kidney infection is often when a urinary tract infection has been left untreated. Urinary tract infections are usually caused by a bacterial infection - short distance from one area to another - Always, always wipe from front to back!! Otherwise it can be caused by something messing up the delicate balance of good bacteria in the area. Too much soap or perfumed products; too much sugar in your diet; too much yeast in your diet... If it's a kidney infection you need to see a doctor and get it checked out properly, quickly. If it's a urinary tract infection, you need to rebalance the natural order. You can buy tablets, sachets and creams over the counter, but they've never worked as well or as quickly for me as the following. Firstly, cooling and relieving on the ichy sore area - Live natural yoghurt - definately no sugar, or fruit added!!! Smear a little on the area - or on a pantliner works well. You'll have to change often and Yes, it does cook and smell pretty bad; but it does relieve the pain - therefore worth it. Secondly, pearl barley water - not juice. You need pearl barley, you have to put about a centimeter in the bottom of a pan and fill the pan with water and boil it until the barley goes soft and the water goes cloudy, then you have to drink the water off it. I guarantee this will work within a few hours if you drink it all; but it is minging! I did however, once make a friend for life from this advice. Cranberry juice is a more palitable option for most, but it must have no sugar in it or it won't do the job - which is pretty hard to come by. I hope you feel better soon.

Could be bacterial from the bladder, or some kind of inflammation. All I know is they are very painful! Drink lots of water/cranberry juice.

It could be a viral infection that causes it or a urinary tract infection that was not treated that spread to the kidneys. Hope this info helps. Regards, GreekCrusader Dog & Health Expert http://www.BadBreathDog.com/bbd.htm ***This is my signature. Not Advertisement or SPAM***

AZO is a product in the women's section next to yeats infections that helps. You will most likely need antibotics along with lots of water to heal correctly and get rid of the infection. Please see a doctor. The pain will only get worst.

Bladder issues might have something to do with it. I had severe bladder infections for a long time. Without treatment it backs up into your kidneys. 'Kidney infection typically occurs when bacteria enter your urinary tract through the urethra and begin to multiply. Bacteria can also infect your kidneys by way of your bloodstream. Most infections that enter your kidneys through your bloodstream originate from another infected area of your body, such as a skin infection or from an infected foreign body, such as a hip prosthesis or an infected heart value.' I hear strep infection can also be a big cause.
