How can I get my kids to stop falling asleep under the table, on the kitchen counter, or in the bathub?
-
the youngest 5 out of my 7 kids have this weird habit of falling asleep during the day in odd places. I'll be in the kitchen, and 3 of them will run through screaming/playing tag, whatever, and 5 min, later i'll go into the living room and down the hall, and one is under the cofee table, one is in the bathtub, and the other is on the bottom stairs, all fast asleep. 5 min. later they are all running around again, when i get back to the kitchen, one of them is fast asleep on the kitchen counter.they are like this all day, hyper, asleep, hyper, asleep. i wouldn't mind if they slept in their beds when they got tired, but underneath the dining room table? they won't even sleep on the couch, behind the couch, but not on the couch. i've tried talking to them, threatening them, punishing them, and nothing works. the 5 who do this are ages 5, 6, 6, 8, & 9. the oldest 2 ages 12 & 13 sleep often to, but they sleep in their beds. any ideas on how to get them out of this habit?

Answer:
You may want to take your children to a doctor to do some tests for Narcolepsy. This sounds and awful lot like that is what they are striken with. Unfortunately, there is no cure for narcolepsy, but they can help you figure out a good routine. Good luck.

You should get them checked out by a doctor... The waking up in panic mode when moved thing doesn't seem right. It also seems strange that they fall asleep randomly like that. Could be some sort of issue there...

What I would like to know is, why you have kids? To give a single kid a chance for good education, it will cost you $750,000. You have a discipline problem, kids should be in bed by very latest 8 PM and sleep through the night.

Don't give them hyper foods.lol Cause they'll get hyper and run around, then lose all their energy and fall asleep.Give them a nap time.Make a pallet for them. Put on a movie and they'll fall asleep.

Sound like they may have narcolepsy you need to see a physician so they can properly diagnose this Or it could be a related sleep disorder. Narcolepsy is treated with medication so there is nothing really that you can do at home to fix this you need to take them to there pediatrician and explain to them what is going on.

Yeeesh. Sounds like narcolepsy. What's wrong with them sleeping in odd places? My brother likes to sleep in his closet so much that my dad put a dog bed pad (only thing that would fit) and some blankets in there. He's got a perfectly good bed, lots of toys... but the weird little booger prefers the closet. Go figure. Lots of kids are like your kids. They have two states of being: Stop and Go. No in between. They are not in any danger from there resting places... except the one on the counter. My advice is to put a pillow on the floor so that if one falls off the counter, they won't crack their head.

My first thought, it could be worse. What if they never took a nap anywhere So thanks your lucky stars for the quiet. I think the counter is dangerous though. Explain to your friends that you are conducting an experiment for a large manufacturer of sleeping drugs and the children are helping you with effectiveness. I'm assuming you have tried structured naps (in the bed type naps) and that is my only thought. I used to put my son down for his nap on the floor on a blanket, for fear he would try to climb out of his bed. Worked for me Lots of luck. But other than the cabinet one....I wouldn't worry just find a way to enjoy the novelty. You place sounds fun. And later in life this is a much more interesting story to tell the future spouses and future children. Look at this picture of your father. or look where you Mom used to take her naps. More fun that you parents always took naps in their beds!! Be sure to keep a good camera handy.
