What does low platelets and high hemoglobin mean?

WBC low counts & low platelets but normal hemoglobin what does it mean?

  • Answer:

Hello, If your WBC and platelets are truly low, you should see a hematologist. A variety of conditions can cause that, some more benign than others. These numbers will then be placed into proper context based on history, physical examination and other tests. Can't get any more specific than that.

A low WBC count is a condition called neutropenia. Depending on how low it is, it can result in a person having difficulty fighting infection already present in the body and/or make the person more susceptible to new infection as fighting infection and preventing infection are jobs the WBC do. Low platelet count is a condition called thrombocytopenia (thrombocyte is another name for platelet). Platelets are vital in the clotting process in a person's body, i.e. healing injuries. If a person's platelet count is low, he/she will have trouble getting injuries, both internal & external to heal. Hemoglobin is the protein on red blood cells to which the oxygen molecules bind so that they can be transported around the body. I hope this helps.
