Lupus+Fibromyalgia Similar symptoms. Is there a name?

I don't have Lupus, I don't have Fibromyalgia. I do have similar symptoms of each because of another illness I had long ago. I had Cushing's syndrome of the left adrenal. I lost my adrenal due to the illness. I had the disease for a long time without obvious symptoms. For those unfamiliar, Cushing's is an overproduction of the cortisol hormone that produces symptoms as if an athlete took artificial steroids his/her whole career. Loss of bone, muscle mass, can destroy you internal organs and makes you weak overall. This is only the beginning. It is a horrible disease to have, especially if you had it for a long time as I had. I do have similar symptoms like Lupus and Fibro patients. My worst affliction is the fatigue. The horrible profound fatigue that causes me to fall on a bed or couch and stay in for two days straight. It is because of my wasted weak muscles. Doctors say there is no magic pill to repair muscles. The only way is lots of protein, exercise and weight lifting. Typical. It's been 7 years since I had surgery to remove my adrenal and I have been taking it step by step because there was a point when I couldn't even walk after surgery. If you saw me now, you wouldn't know I had any problems. I look like a strong healthy and energetic 29 year old. But inside, there are days when I hurt, I hurt real bad. Every joint and muscle throbs with pain like a million little hearts. I get dizzy when I feel weak and sharp pains travel up around my head as if I'm about to have a stroke. My eyes feel droopy and sleepy although I have been resting for 10+ hours. Don't even get me started with the jaw and facial pain... I can't ever get my body back the way it was before I had Cushing's. I eat healthy, I always kept a good weight and I NEVER stop being active despite my weakness and pain. But I'm curious however to know if there is a name besides the generic "muscle weakness" to describe my situation. I'd like to do more research on my situation.

Answer:
Have you had your thyroid tested? You need testing for thyroid ANTIBODIES as well as TSH. TSH ‘norm’ should be .3 – 3 (w/ most feeling best at < 2) but, for diagnosis, may not mean much if ANTIBODIES are present which is indicative of Hashimoto’s Autoimmune Thyroiditis (cycles between HYPER & HYPO at start)…it is the main cause of eventual HypOthyroidism but worse (...OR Graves Disease – HypERthyroid from beginning). WARNING: Doctors seem not to want to find/treat thyroid disease. You may have to go to more than one doctor before you get the right tests, interpretation, and treatment. Best wishes. Don't you just love "labels"? Scientist have worked so hard to find a name for every little thing that we think there should be one. Besides humans demand one and the worse you are the better they respond to it. Example: I have a really bad headache and I don't feel like going out today. OR I am sorry I have a migraine and I can't function. omg a Migraine. poor thing. you see? So since they know what causes fibromyalgia, Lupus and Me/Chronic fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome and since you definitely don't have that cause then you must have some other label right? I don't agree. If they don't want to say what causes them, they are up for grabs. Once your adrenals are exhausted (and yours is gone) then the symptoms of all the Labels above will surface. Fibromyalgia is not a cause, its a result. Me/CFIDS is not a cause, its a result. Lupus is not a cause its a result. Arthritis is not a cause, its a result. If you do not meet Lupus criteria then perhaps Lupus is not your Label. But I would not hesitate to say for a minute you are suffering from the results of the adrenal no longer functioning and you do indeed have Fibromyalgia and Me/CFIDS. That is what I would say to people, I have Fibromyalgia and ME/CFIDS as a result of having my adrenals removed. My muscles are so week I can't describe it, every joint and muscle throbs with such pain........ I am always sleepy though I am supposed to have slept a full night and I am also suffering from TMJ and facial pain. (I would ask the doc if Lyrica, Savella or Cymbalta might help you, Neurontin - gaba something- get to those neurons, B12 shots, and search the Methylation Protocol. Fix the symptoms don't look for a label. Oh by the way.... ok your adrenal is out. But who said you don't have those labels from some other cause? Scientist are playing with us, we are group of people with a genetic history they do not wish to share. But its there -- I bet you qualify, adrenal or not. I am sorry you are suffering. Those symptoms don't sound like much fun ! Hugs and prayers, Hopabout
