What is "balanced polymorphism?

I just tested positive for Polymorphism in relation to my 3 miscarriages. What does this mean in simpler terms?

  • What exactly is Polymorphism in relation to women and miscarriages? Can this be a risk to my health in the long run? I just really don't understand this diagnosis. . .

  • Answer:

You have a gene that predisposes you to making clots. This increases your rate of miscarriage because if you cause clots in your placenta, then blood supply to the baby is diminished and you then miscarry. The other risk is that you are at a higher risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism. You may need to discuss with your doctor issues such as taking anticoagulant (blood thinning) medication, its implication for future pregnancies, air travel, etc.
