Will my singing voice come back?

Lost my singing voice 2 months ago and it didn't come back...I'm 35?

  • before I get any obvious replies such as "see a doctor or ENT, or throat specialist" I have an appointment scheduled for next week but this has been eating at me so i thought I'd put it out there for those that are qualified to answer, not for those juvenile idiots that use this as their method to distribute hate and scorn on others. I'm a vocalist and have had a few albums sold, around 100k, as a front man for a rock band. I've also been doing musicals for 20 years. I woke up a couple months ago and tried to sing but found that my voice was strained so I thought I'd strained my vocal cords the night before at the bar and paid no attention. Well, it really hasn't gotten any better and I have been attributing it to a sinus infection that I had and other various ailments. Does anyone have any experience with this or have any idea as to what could be the issue? I've been told everything from polyps to Lung Cancer but I'd like to hear what you have to say. thanks

  • Answer:

This is in no way a professional opinion, just something I heard Nicole Ritchie talking about on TV once. Her father (Lionel Ritchie) lost his singing voice for years, had surgeries to attempt to correct it, and nothing worked. Finally some doctor figured out that it was something in his diet that caused the problems. Something that he was eating was causing acid reflux which caused him to lose his singing voice He stopped eating that particular food and his voice came back. Just a suggestion. ;-)

you may want to try re-posting this in the singing section under entertainment and music, music, singing....there are a lot of singing experts that read those questions.... It is possible to permanently injure your vocal chords if you abuse them....I hope this isn't what happened to you....good luck!

hard to say, but strains can take a long time to heal, expecially if you keep irritating them

go to ent. oh oops didn't read the question thoroughly lol. Um just wait for the doctor and drink tea with honey in it!

Rest your voice, or your condition could linger on for a long time. Don't whisper, whispering actually strains your vocal chords more than speaking normally! Drink lots of water. Check out this link, it has info on how to take care of your speaking and singing voice: Check this site out.

I definitely think it has to do with your sinus infection. It all runs together. Good luck at the doctor, but I think you'll be singing in no time. Make sure your going to an ear, nose and throat specialist.

Maybe you've been singing too much. Or maybe you've just been singing wrong. Remember, don't force your voice, breathe from your diaphragm, and do a lot of warm-ups before singing. You probably know this, but I'm just saying...
