How do I tell a coworker not to take the magazines to the restroom?

politely tell him to stop being such an inconsiderate A55. or borrow something from his office to take into the bathroom with you next time and let him know what you'll be doing in there.

I think his actions have precluded the "polite" stage - that guy is obviously an insensitive boor - but if you feel the need to be "sensitive" about it maybe take the "buddy" role and say that other people have mentioned it to you in disgust and as a friend you wanted to give him a heads up... of course you could take the total passive apporoach and hole punch and chain the mags to the coffee tables with big stickers "property of such-and-such Corp. - do not remove from waiting room" and maybe simultaneously stock the restroom with some "reading material"...

Tell him to use toilet tissue like everyone else in the office, and to leave the magazines for reading, not for wiping.

This happens in my office too!! Only it's the boss thats doing the taking not the coworker, so I can't say anything.

As long as the pages aren't stuck together when he brings them back, I don't think you have an argument.

Buy him his own copies.

I agree with bretto24 a notice on the bathroom door or even a notice in the lobby stating not to remove from this lobby might work. It is a really an unhealthy thing to do and he might not understand that, You might talk to him about it say before work starts or after work.
