Answer:
Lesley, I have multiple sclerosis. There are many symptoms of MS. However there are no classic first symptoms of MS. MS manifests itself differently in all of us who have it. About 50% of people who get MS start out with optic neuritis. For the rest it can be lack of balance, tingling, numbness, pain somewhere in the body, bowel problems, memory problems, cogntive problems, slurred speech, sleeping excessively or just fatigue, urinary problems and the list goes on. No two people get all the symptoms of MS or get them in the same intensity. It is not uncommon for people to experience symptoms for years or even a decade before they are finally diagnosed. The symptoms will come and go which is typical of MS in the beginning because MS generally starts out in its relapsing/remittimg form. So the fact that your symptoms have gone away means nothing. The majority of people who have optic neuritis usually get a confirmation of MS within the following year. My first sign of MS was fatigue which started more than ten years before my diagnosis. The next was optic neuritis. When I finally was diagnosed by a neurologist, I already knew I had it. I had called the National MS Society and read just about all their literature which can be downloaded from their internet site (NMSS.ORG). Now the good news. Many, many people who have MS lead normal lives. While many of us take medicines and have challanges, we lead normal lives and live normal life spans. Do you picture people who have MS as all having permanent physical problems? Well, we don't. With new medications and tons more on the horizon, MS is taking less of a toll. Now there is a form of the disease that is known as progessive MS that does take a toll on the body and can render someone helpless. On the upside it looks as though researchers are fast on the road to reverse the ravages of MS. Good luck, sweetie.

OK, these are symptoms: 1. Feeling perfectly fine (seriously..) then out of no where... 2. Tingling of legs, arms, face etc. 3. Blurry vision. 4. Re-acurring semi symptoms of past relapses...For ex: I had optic neuritis, and sometimes when I'm tired late @ night, and I look to the right or left, my eye temples hurt. Same thing that happened before I went blind on my right eye. 5. Chronic Fatigue--feeling lethargic. Feeling like you have to climb a mountain to just brush your teeth in the morning--there is a good medication for this--it's called Amantadine. It's like a coffee in the morning. if you're not on treatment, you should get on it ASAP. You dont have signs that you have M.S., you HAVE M.S. Signs are legs tingling. What you mentioned just now are relapses. And if you don't get medication, they will get worse! :( Please help yourself, fight back. :)

Theres some great info on the web about this, signs and symptoms vary greatly so each sufferer will tell you something different. Numbness and tingling in limbs Lack of concentration, memory Pain in several areas of the body Blurred vision Difficulty with mobility Tiredness etc It takes a long time to be diagnosed with MS as they have to rule out so many other things before, an MRI usually shows it up as it will show 'lesions' which is common with MS. You may have early signs of it but a lot of people cope quite well with MS as people get in different degrees.

You had two symptoms and the first MRI didn't show what caused it. That doesn't mean you were OK; it just means they couldn't identify the cause. Symptoms of MS are episodic problems with vision, with coordination, balance, etc. With due respect, "optic neuritis" doesn't actually say anything except what is tautological. See a specialist neurologist if you even suspect MS because there are treatments to keep the condition in abeyance when started early.
