How do you get rid of hiccups if nothing else works?

I always get the hiccups and nothing I do gets rid of them. What can I do to get rid of them? Thanks. I have the hiccups now too!

I'm going to give you the ULTRA-Secret CURE for Hiccups. (ok its not so secret - and I'll tell you why it works too) Get yourself a heaping spoonful of sugar and consume it in one big gulp. OR Rub your tongue against the soft palate in the back of your mouth. The reason this works is that the nerve system that causes the hiccups is located just above the soft pallate. For some reason it starts to cycle in upon itself firing its own message over and over again and causing the hiccup that we all know and love. By pressing the soft pallate up against these nerves, you disrupt the signal from transmitting and the hiccups stop. It's easy to give kids a reason to eat sugar. But you don't have to have sugar handy to get rid of the hiccups.

It seems like different things work for different people. All I need to do is concentrate and visualize biting into a lemon. That will clear them up instantly for me. Other ideas: 1. Hodling Breath back-to-back until they are gone (always restart if you hiccup while holding your breath). This also works well for me. 2. Bite into something very tart like a Lemon 3. Drink water standing on your head 4. Massage your earlobes while controlling your breathing to a slower pace.

Take a deep breath and hold it as long as you can - then let it out slowly and take another deep breath. Continue with this routine until the hiccups stop. Carbon dioxide builds up and that is what stops the hiccups. It may take some minutes for this to work so stick with it.

It always helps me to concentrate really hard on something else. Next thing I know, the hiccups are gone!

I would sometimes get a hiccup fit that lasted 2 days. No remedy solution would work for me. Drinking water upside down from a glass would sometimes satiate them for a small period. They'd be aggravated by cigarette smoking, and they after-effect feeling they left was never nice. But I found a solution. Relaxation and mediation. (There is also a fowl part of the solution that involves loud belching, but this is a medical thing we're speaking of anyway.) Hiccups, I've found, are caused by a spasm of the diaphram muscle. (Also note, singers train their diaphram.) As with any muscle spasm, relaxation of it the muscle is what is being sought as a solution. I don't promote the use of muscle relaxants for medical problems which have a homeopathic remedy. In the case of hiccups, to relax the diaphram requires concentration and meditation can help that. I'm not speaking of lighting sticks of incense and sitting with legs folded on a carpet while wearing a robe. You should find what works for you to relax in order to find a solution to your hiccups. As I mentioned, you will tend to release a lot of gas through belching. Laying down is not the best position to promote this. Sitting or standing is best because the body can take advantage of the natural law of gas rising. The overall objective, of course, is to maintain the status of relaxation so that the hiccups do not return in a few hours or even moments time.

hiccups are a spasm in your diaphram. if you hold your breath, and really puff out your lungs, it should get your diaphram back in line with your brathing

i get them a lot to and the only thing i found that works is a spoon full of sugar. it gets rid of mine every time

you have to swallow during the actual hiccup-I've found that a spoonful of sugar works best because you have to keep swallowing-but if you get the hiccups that won't go away often you should tell your doctor
