How did I get genital herpes?!?
-
So technically I don't know for sure that's what it is, but I'm almost positive. So let's say I DO have genital herpes. I have only slept with one man, and he has slept with many before me. We have been sexually active together for close to 8 months, and I've never had any complications come up before. I would say it's obvious that he quite possibly transmitted the disease, but he says he has never had any symptoms, and as far as I'm aware, none of his previous sexual partners have had any signs of herpes. I'm just way confused and quite concerned. Help?! P.S. If anyone can recommend an effective way to soothe the sores, that'd be excellent. Thanks!

Answer:
Men can often have herpes with out having any signs or symptoms of it. They have stronger immune systems which helps to suppress the virus and keep it from showing symptoms. He could have contracted it uknowingly long before he met you. You may want to ask him to get tested so he knows his status. If you feel the need to you can always get re tested. Warm epsom salts baths are a great way to sooth the pain but you may want to get some lysine or antiviral medication from your doctor to help heal the break out faster.

My husband and I had no symptoms for YEARS (one ex for each of us). But we both recently found out we were positive, do to a random break out from me. Our partners never showed symptoms, and mine was just brought on by severe stress. You can go to your OBGYN and they can do a skin test (rub a Q-tip on the sores), or a blood test (option for people with no symptoms, like your boyfriend). You can get the test back in just a few days, and I was pretty upset when I received that phone call let me tell you! After you've been proven positive the doctor can give you medicine to hurry the process along (it can shorten the cycle by a few days). If it's severe, she can also give you some pain medicine. Besides that, I've found nothing that helped the pain when I had my outbreak. No amount of advil would put a dent in it.
